Interdependencias is launching an artistic mediation process through the Ambar association with the aim of advancing non-institutionalised life models for people with functional diversity. Ambar has been working for over 40 years for equal opportunities for people with functional diversity in the Barbanza region.

Can an institution focused on the lives of people with functional diversity disappear?

The institutionalisation of care for people with functional diversity has represented progress but, What if deinstitutionalisation allowed us to experiment with other ways of being together?

The disappearance of these institutions could mean that people are participants in the decisions affecting their lives and that, therefore, we would stop seeing them as subjects of assistance and instead as subjects of their own lives. To achieve this deep desire, we first need to imagine it. We propose to activate a participatory artistic project that helps to think about other, more interdependent ways of relating to each other.

A sort of mycelium of relationships that interweave and allow progress in the agency of people's lives in general and people with functional diversity in particular.

What can the perspective of diversity bring to a territory?

We are initiating a mediation process with a group of stakeholders comprising 15 users of Ambar. Professionals, family members, and volunteers from the association, as well as other people from the immediate community, will progressively join this initial circle of promoters. The ultimate objective is to direct an artistic work with which to ask society as a whole how we can de-institutionalise the lives of people with functional diversity.

How do we imagine diversity in the community life of a region? During the process, we will work outside the institutional building, creating the conditions for the process to unfold, for careful and porous encounters with the community to occur, and for interdependencies to be practised.

The final result, we hope, will be a work of art that advances the initial dream from which this conjoining is born: the disappearance of institutions in the lives of people with functional diversity.
