Fog
Zaragoza y pueblos de alrededor
Period: 2026 - present
‘Boira’ is the Aragonese word for ‘fog’. With this in mind, the project focuses on highlighting the implications that the digital cloud – apparently ephemeral, volatile – generates when it touches down and becomes thick, opaque, and troublesome.
It should be said that, to date, we have 28 data centres planned in Aragonese territory, with a total electrical capacity of 11237MW and a potential consumption, once installed, of 7 times the current electricity demand of the entire autonomous community.
Artificial intelligence surpasses our human logic, and the scale of installed or planned data centre projects engenders a paralysing helplessness. These spaces are also inaccessible to the public. How do we relate to opacity, to that which we do not control or cannot see or understand? How does one defend a given territory to the point of sacrifice? And regarding technology, can we appropriate its means, or must we renounce it?
‘Boira’ opens these questions to collectively propose answers (or more questions), enabling artistic practice to contribute to the defence of the territory in conjunction with the citizen platform ‘It's not drought, it's plunder’.
