The loss of rural culture and the industrialisation of the countryside do not merely affect human beings; they also impact the habitats of wildlife, which suffer the ravages of the expansion of power lines, an increase in wildfires, the use of harmful chemicals in agriculture, and poaching. These changes, occurring alongside the process of depopulation in regions such as Extremadura, directly threaten many animal species that are disappearing from the Iberian Peninsula.

The “Asilvestrados” project seeks ways to foster healthy relationships with the land in order to prevent harm to wildlife – from the Iberian lynx to the hedgehog, from the great bustard to the Montagu’s harrier, from the common swift to the black vulture – species that suffer daily from human-caused violence that could be prevented. 

To this end, we are working with the staff at AMUS, a leading organisation in wildlife conservation and the protection of natural habitats, and we invite the community in the Badajoz region to develop networks of knowledge and practices that will help restore our connection with natural environments and diverse ways of life. Seeking to repair the damage caused to numerous species is not just a matter of justice; it is essential for fostering healthier ways of living in rural areas.
