Towns Square

Towns Square It is a collective assembly network of mostly migrant activists and artivists, who take action from Madrid for decolonisation, learning from and supporting the struggles of Indigenous Peoples in Abya Yala. The Plaza originated in 2012 from the International Politics working group of the 15M Movement in Madrid. In 2013, we constituted ourselves as the Assembly Plaza de los Pueblos, operating uninterruptedly until now. By sharing the stories, pain, and struggles of our peoples, we have collectively recognised the persistence of colonisation, the coloniality of power, and its devastating impacts on the Ñuke Mapu (Mother Earth in Mapudungun) and Indigenous Peoples. Therefore, as migrants in the Spanish state, we aim to contribute to the transformation of these conditions through the call: “Let's decolonise”. Constituting ourselves as an assembly has allowed us to get to know each other, share our knowledge, and shape our work in support of the struggles of Indigenous Peoples: the defence of their territories, of ecosystems, against extractivism, the defence of their cultures and spiritualities in harmony with the Allpa Mama (Mother Earth) and in alliance with the knowledge and political proposals of migrants and Indigenous Peoples.
