More democracy

An invitation to imagine 50 more years of democracy together

Democracy, like the world we inhabit, also finds itself in this uncertainty. There are no longer clear majorities, societies have changed, and the Show He/She seems to dominate the public scene. 

According to Sociological Research Centre (CIS), 12 % of young Spaniards aged between 18 and 24 believe that, in certain circumstances, an authoritarian government is preferable to a democratic system. It is therefore crucial to forge alliances with young people’s communities with whom we can work together to build more democracy, in order to reverse this trend.

Frente a visiones pesimistas del futuro, con More democracy we reclaim horizons of hope and for that reason we are launching this project with the aim of being able to creating spaces for experimentation and speculation for a more robust democracy. This is about supporting emerging trends or delving into governance labs that allow for later replication. 

We are setting our sights on the next 50 years and, in doing so, we ask ourselves: if we have been able to live in freedom over the last 50 years, what will it be like to live in freedom over the next 50? We are not looking for oracles, but for processes that help us imagine that future still to come. Above all, we are looking for young people willing to think about how to strengthen the democracy that is yet to arrive. 

At this meeting We will present the programme. To confabulate more democracy, What does a call for proposals with €100,000 include? to support young people who wish to experiment, imagine or dream of more democracy. 

In addition to presenting the call for applications, with which we will promote two new artistic concomitances, We will talk with experts on youth and democracy, we will enjoy a performance, We will discover the eleven challenges to democracy through a new fanzine and much more.

Confabulating More Democracy is a programme coordinated by Concomitentes and supported by the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation. It collaborates with Spain en Libertad Commissioner, La Casa Encendida and the Future Studies Laboratory of the University of Alcalá.
