Repairing the Mar Menor
Period: 2026 - present
Repairing the Mar Menor arises at a crucial moment for the Mar Menor. After decades of environmental, economic, and social transformations, the territory faces the challenge of imagining new ways of coexistence between people and the ecosystem that sustains them. The approval of the innovative Law 19/2022, which recognizes the Mar Menor as a subject of rights, also opens up a new horizon for thinking about our relationship with nature and the potential futures of the territory.
In this context, the concomitance proposes an artistic mediation process to bring together diverse voices around a common question. People, collectives, entities and institutions linked to the Mar Menor will be invited to share experiences, knowledge and perspectives about the territory. From that process of listening, an artistic commission will emerge capable of dialoguing with this moment of transformation.
The question that accompanies the project is simple and at the same time profoundly complex: how to bring about the changes that this new situation presents us by cultivating a community that takes care of and strengthens itself? How to integrate the various inhabitants—human and non-human—of the territory without losing the memory and history that sustain us?
Rather than offering answers, Reparar el Mar Menor wants to open up a space where, through art, we can imagine new ways of caring for the territory and building a shared future.
