Public activity in León: 'Inhabited narratives for solar landscapes'.

The three days, which will take place from 20 to 22 April in different venues in the province of León, aim to generate exchange on the role of art in the management of environmental challenges.

The project 'Solar Narratives’organises the conference ‘Inhabited narratives for solar landscapes’ in different venues in the province of León from Thursday 20 to Saturday 22 April..

The three days - to be held in the Cerezales Foundation (Cerezales del Condado), the Museum of Leonese Villages (Mansilla de las Mulas) and the Town Hall of Valdefresno - will be held in the Cerezales Foundation (Cerezales del Condado), the Museum of Leonese Villages (Mansilla de las Mulas) and the Town Hall of Valdefresno, seek to reflect on the role of art and culture in the management of environmental challenges.

The Leonese initiative has been working hand in hand with the mediator since 2022, Alfredo Escapa, y ‘The Citizens' Platform for the Defence of Sobarriba’ for activating a just and sustainable ecological transition that is committed to the territory of this region of León, where 10,000 macro solar plants are planned to be installed, threatening crops, pastures and forests in the local context.

From 2022 and throughout 2023, mediation sessions will be held with the community from which a commission will emerge, to which an artist will have to respond through a work of art. The general outlines of this artistic commission will be presented in the last session on Saturday.

Participants: Fran Quiroga, coordinator of Concomitentes, and Alfredo Escapa, mediator of Solar Narratives.

16.35hrs. Intervention by Blanca de la Torre

She is a curator, art historian and researcher whose professional work is situated at the intersection between the visual arts, political ecology and sustainable creative practices.

17.05hrs. Intervention by the ‘MAL curatorial platform’.’

With the participation of: José Iglesias García-Arenal

She works through artistic and curatorial practice on the politics of memory, the links between technological development and extractivist processes, and the transformation of the body in the virtual sphere from a transfeminist perspective.

17.35hrs. Speech by Laura Tabarés

A cultural researcher-producer and visual artist, her practice unfolds from hybrid places such as audiovisual narration, the collective exchange of intuitions through workshops, or the development of situated cultural projects.

17.05hrs. Intervention by Víctor Casas

A biologist by training, consultant and environmental communicator by profession, he has carried out a number of museographic, educational and audiovisual projects in different rural areas of the western Iberian Peninsula. He is the founder of the Asociación Nacional de Criadores de la Raza Asnal.

Participants: Chus Domínguez, Nilo Gallego, Violeta Alegre and Belén Sola.

‘Animal Space Time’ is an audiovisual creation and research project that approaches extensive pastoralism from a point of view that tries to learn another way of being and being in the world.

Chus Domínguez is an audiovisual creator who works in the field of documentary filmmaking. Together with Belén Sola, he has set up and co-directs the LAAV_ (Laboratory of Experimental Audiovisual Anthropology) at the Musac.

Belén Sola Pizarro is a researcher and mediator between contemporary artistic practices, experimental ethnography and critical pedagogies. She is a member of the LAAV_ team.

Nilo Gallego Rodríguez. Musician, he makes performances in which experimentation with sound is the starting point. In his works he seeks audience participation and interaction with the environment.

María Violeta Alegre. She has been a transhumant extensive livestock farmer in the province of León since 1986, and since 2016 she has been a member of the ‘Ganaderas en red’ collective, and runs the website ‘Pastores de la montaña y ribera de León’ (Shepherds of the mountains and riverbanks of León).

Bartlebooth is a research and publishing platform founded in 2013 that examines contemporary spatial practice through physical publications, web projects, audiovisual installations, exhibitions and workshops, among other formats.

Participant: Urbano Seco Vallinas, Mayor of the municipality

Gordoncillo is a municipality in the province of León located in the extreme southeast, bordering the province of Valladolid, and is committed to conserving and expanding its natural heritage.

A multidisciplinary artist, doctor, researcher and teacher, she is a specialist in new strategies and contemporary artistic practices related to the systemic environmental crisis, technology and nature.

He teaches traditional percussion at the Escuela de Formación Tradicional del Ayuntamiento de León, where he encourages his students' interest in León culture.

Dancer and producer of events, she works in different fields of the contemporary scene, and co-founded the company Bailarinas Parabólicas and the training project La Pecera Elástica.
