Parliament of the Sea
La Barceloneta, Barcelona
Period: 2026 - present
In a context marked by climate emergency, loss of biodiversity and pressure from tourism and urban development, Parlamento del Mar promotes community artistic processes that combine science and citizenship to explore new forms of ecological governance of the marine and social territory of Barceloneta.
Scientific and technical staff from the Institut de Ciències del Mar, together with local residents and agents, participate in a process of active listening, collective deliberation and formulation of an artistic commission that responds to shared needs and aspirations. Located in Barceloneta, the project generates a space for co-creation where scientific knowledge and local knowledge dialogue on an equal footing, consolidating a system of co-responsibility aimed at caring for the coast and its inhabitants.
Between 2026 and 2027, Parlamento del Mar tests sustainable and horizontal forms of coexistence with the coast, strengthening the links between ecology, culture and collective action and promoting participatory practices of environmental governance, where artistic methodology acts as a catalyst for new community institutions.
