The publishing house Triqueta Verde relaunches the illustrated short story, 'Hospitalario' by El Hematocrítico and Cynthia Hierro

The book, which is already in bookshops throughout Spain in Galician, Spanish and Catalan, is one of the three artistic works of Concomitentes' 'Paediatric ICU' project, which aims to support nursing staff in the emotional care of paediatric patients.

The second of the works of art of the project ‘.‘Paediatric ICU’The illustrated story ‘Hospitalario’, written by the Galician author Miguel López (El Hematocrítico) and illustrated by the Canarian artist Cynthia Hierro, has been relaunched by the Galician publishing house specialising in books for children and young people, ‘Hospitalario'.‘Green Triquettes’, and will be available in bookshops throughout Spain in Spanish, Galician and Catalan versions.

The story, whose first limited edition of 100 copies was launched in 2022, is aimed at children admitted to an ICU, and is part of Concomitentes‘ project ’Paediatric ICU', which seeks to help paediatric patients manage and navigate the experience of hospital admission, through the resources provided by art and culture. 

A work that is the result of a journey

In the concomitance, Paediatric ICU, the mediator, Felipe G. Gil from ZEMOS98, and a group of five nurses from the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital in Tenerife, worked from 2018 to 2023 to provide tools to support these professionals to better attend to the emotional care of paediatric patients.

One of the three resulting works of art, along with a podcast and a mobile library, was ‘Hospitalario’, a story centred on “care” and which focuses on children who are going through the ordeal of hospitalisation: “My intention is that the children who pass through your hands identify with the protagonists and share the same concerns,” he explained. The Hematocritic in one of the interviews in which he described his creative process.

The Hematocrítico, who died at the end of 2023, responded with this work impregnated with the “humour and tenderness” so characteristic of his work. A legacy that today lives on and manages to expand its editorial dimension to reach more readers.
