The project ‘Solar Narratives’, winner of the first Art for Sustainability Call for Entries

The initiative proposes to recreate and re-imagine stories to tell the celebration of living, with all its contradictions, in rural areas such as Sobarriba, in the province of León.
The project ‘Solar Narratives’, promoted by the mediator Alfredo Escapa Presa together with the members of the Plataforma Ciudadana en Defensa de la Sobarriba in the León region of La Sobarriba (León), has been selected and won in the first Art for Sustainability Call for Proposals. launched by Concomitentes last April.
The choice was based on the alignment of the proposal with the criteria of the call, its attention to the urgent climate crisis, as well as its approach and focus. Solar Narratives‘, which will be the fifth concomitance of the project in Spain, is an initiative with an interest at local and state level, which seeks to make visible the territorial affectations faced by rural areas through the installation of solar photovoltaic power plants, thus presenting a contingent struggle to generate a sustainable and just ecological transition for the territories and people who inhabit them.
The decision was taken last Wednesday, 6 July, unanimously by the Evaluation Committee made up of Isabelle Le Galo, Director in Spain of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation; Germán Labrador, Director of Public Programmes at the Reina Sofía; Arantxa Mendiharat, mediator and co-founder of democracyporsorteo.org, from Deliberativa; Soledad Gutiérrez, chief curator at TBA21; María Ptqk, curator and researcher; and Fran Quiroga, coordinator of Concomitentes and mediator of the Galician concomitance Legado Cuidado.
Among the general conclusions of the members of this panel of experts The high level of the proposals received has been valued, and it has been pointed out that there is a high demand and need for this type of projects due to their environmental interest., and for its potential to address social needs through the resources provided by artistic and cultural practices.
Within the framework of this call, which sought projects that address social demands, environmental challenges and/or community desires that can be tackled through a cultural and artistic proposal, the following projects have been favoured proposals to be developed in a rural area with little activity and/or support for cultural initiatives and a geographical diversity has been sought., Concomitentes is currently involved in four other pilot projects in the Canary Islands, Barcelona, Madrid and Galicia. It currently has four other pilot projects located in the Canary Islands, Barcelona, Madrid and Galicia.
In the coming weeks we will be sharing with you more details of this fifth concomitance, another step in the expansion and consolidation of Concomitentes in Spain, which began its journey in 2018 with the help of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation as founding patron.
