The Quasars Collection, a browsable showcase of cultural objects related to cancer, is now available.

Quásares is a participatory art project that seeks to improve the emotional care of cancer patients through cultural mediation and art, and is coordinated by Felipe G. Gil, from ZEMOS98. Among the results of this process is this catalogue, designed with the aim of connecting the emotions of cancer patients with different artistic expressions.

Since 2024 Felipe has been mediating the Quásares project, which is being developed in the oncology units of the Sagrado Corazón and Infanta Luisa hospitals in Seville. Through this process, the aim is to highlight the transformative power of culture in the field of health and to offer a space where the emotions of the oncological process can be expressed and managed.

The project is in the phase of defining the artistic commission with which it seeks to delve into the needs of the ecosystem that forms part of the oncology units of these hospitals, from doctors to patients, to people linked to the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC). As part of this process, the Quasars Collection, The exhibition, in which you can find reviews of a series of works and initiatives that have represented and explored the experience of cancer according to a varied sample of artistic formats.

Aimed especially at people close to the cancer experience (patients, relatives, carers and health professionals), this collection is based on the recognition of the value of art and culture in health contexts. Cultural objects thus become mediators in the processes of reflection on the diagnosis and coping with cancer, fostering the autonomy of patients, providing complementary emotional support and contributing to the creation of new personal and collective narratives about the disease.

In addition to collecting an initial sample of works, the Quásares Collection invites the participation of any interested person, by commenting on the works reviewed or suggesting the incorporation of new entries within any of the artistic channels that make up the selection. In this way, the collection will be enriched by its open and expansive nature.

The Quásares Collection has been coordinated by Samuel Fernández Pichel. The texts were written by Chaxiraxi Paola Sosa Rodríguez and Samuel Fernández Pichel.
