The project ‘Os contos do leite’, selected in the Call for Youth Art for Sustainability 2024

The jury unanimously selected the proposal that seeks a “just ecological transition that ensures food sovereignty” in the region of A Ulloa (Lugo), in the face of the threat of the installation of a new pulp mill.

The Galician project ‘Os contos do leite’ has been selected in the ‘Youth Art for Sustainability Call for Proposals’.’, launched by Concomitentes last April.

The initiative was born in response to the threat of the installation in Palas de Rei, in the region of A Ulloa (Lugo), of a cellulose macro-factory. The project ‘Os contos do leite’ argues that A Ulloa is not empty, as it is understood to be in any rural context, but full of life and natural and cultural heritage. For this reason, the project marks a clear mobilisation against the installation of the macro-cellulose factory, seeing a great opportunity, through a sort of cultural rearguard, to value the ecosystemic and cultural services provided by extensive farming linked to the production of dairy products in the region, as well as to enunciate desirable futures for this territory.

According to the ruling of the jury, which unanimously selected the project, the proposal was chosen on the basis of its formulation, the urgency of the problems it addresses and the links established between the mediation team and the territory. The project will be carried out by the mediators, Ana Escariz y Ana Moure, together with the residents of A Ulloa as a citizen's group.

Congratulations to the selected initiative and to those involved in it, but also to the other five shortlisted projects for the quality and level of their proposals.
