Lara Almarcegui
Lara Almarcegui has built an artistic practice based on the exploration of the material aspects of land and urban space. For the last 25 years she has been working in different cities identifying abandoned places, examining the processes of contemporary transformation brought about by socio-political changes. Almarcegui analyses the construction materials used in new buildings and the cyclical relationship between land and architecture. In 2013, he filled the Spanish pavilion at the Venice Biennale with the same materials needed to build it, thus turning it into a ruin.
Over the last few years he has exhibited in institutions such as GfZK, Leipzig (2024), the Graphische Sammlung in Zurich (2019), IVAM in Valencia (2019), Art Basel (2018). He represented Spain at the 55th Venice Biennale (2013).
He works from Rotterdam.
