The new call for young people seeking to address an environmental challenge through an artistic process has arrived.

This year the selection process has been simplified and will have two phases. The first phase, in which the basic concepts of the project will be presented through a form, will be open until Monday, 20 May. The online information session will be held on 6 May.

According to a study published at the beginning of this year, 86.2% of young people are very concerned about global warming and 82% demand more training on environmental climate change issues. Most are even willing to give up products produced in an unsustainable way. The intention to take that step from thought to action, that action that leads to change, is present. But, How can we help the new generations to respond, through art, to the environmental challenges they face?

With this in mind, Concomitentes launches its third call for applications, as last year, aimed at citizen groups under 35 years of age, who want to activate a new artistic-participative project that addresses an environmental challenge in their environment.. The result of this process, which will be guided by a Concomitentes expert in participatory art projects (a mediator), will be a public artwork that will respond to this citizen demand.

Art and culture have great potential to help respond to current social issues, desires or needs. Through its practice, Concomitentes makes this art-society connection, developing a process of mediation that culminates in this artwork or installation.

How to apply: two phases and via a form

As a novelty, the procedure for submitting proposals has been simplified in this edition, which will consist of two phases: the «Phase 1: Idea», The basic concepts of the project will be presented by means of a form consisting of key short answer questions (here). This phase starts from the 25 April and will be open until 20 May.

For the «Phase 2: Proposal» shall be selected before 31 May, from among all the proposals participating in the first phase, five projects that will have the opportunity to further develop their initial idea. This second phase, open until 21 June at 23:59hrs, 200 (taxable base) and will include a consultancy session with the Concomitentes team and the possibility of presenting the project to the jury that will select the winner.

Details of the project development and mentoring sessions will be provided via email to the five shortlisted projects.

The budget for this edition remains unchanged

The winning project will receive a 30,000 budget line, 21,000 for the production of the work and fees for the artist who will be selected in the final phase of the project, after the mediation process.

The winners of the two previous calls for proposals have already started their mediation and one of them is already in the process of artistic production, which will culminate in 2024. See project details ‘Solar Narratives’, which won in 2021; and ‘Non Plus Ultra’, The last 2022.
