The day ‘In Between. For mediation in Europe that strengthens inclusive communities’.’, promoted by Concomitentes and ZEMOS98, which will take place in the Teatro Central de Sevilla on 30 November 2023 from 17 to 21hrs., announces the full programme of this meeting for reflection on participatory processes and cultural mediation in Europe:
17.00 - 17.15hrs - Opening ceremony
- Maral Kekejian, Office of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union
- Representative of the Junta de Andalucía
- Lucia Casani, Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation
- Fran Quiroga, Concomitant
- Felipe G. Gil, ZEMOS98
17.15 - 18.30hrs - Mediation Overview
Through the section ‘Overview of mediation’ - which is the result of a public call - we intend to explore the different ways of cultural and artistic participation and, at the same time, to ask ourselves if there is a common pattern when it comes to mediation in Spain.
Participants:
- A Casa Vella (Ourense), Nuria Sotelo
- Bank of Collaborative Projects / Tekeando (Seville), Macarena Madero
- Cancha Libre / Sala Rekalde (Bilbao), Inés García
- Conciencia Afro - Espacio Afro (Madrid), Moha Gerehou
- BajoTeja Platform (Ávila/Madrid), Claudia Sanchez
Moderated by: Flavia Introzzi (hablarenarte), on behalf of Plataforma MAR
18.30 - 19.30hrs - Round table: Cultural mediation as a public challenge
Porosity and inclusivity are ways of doing public institutions. Cultural mediation is a mechanism at the service of their openness, while facilitating dialogue with communities and becoming a tool for the mutual affectation of both the institution itself and the collectives with which it relates. The question guiding the roundtable is: is the cultural institution open to porosity? What are its limits?
Participants:
- Sofia Coca (ZEMOS98), PLANEA, Art and School Network (Andalusia)
- Hugo Cruz, independent researcher (Portugal)
- Caimin Walsh, Ormston House (Ireland)
- Iva Čukić, Ministarstvo Prostora/Ministry of Space (Serbia)
Moderated by: Fran Quiroga (Concomitentes)
19.30 - 20.00hrs - Coffee Break
20.00 - 21.00hrs - ‘Audiovisual Source Code’: Christian Flores, presented by Felipe G. Gil (ZEMOS98)
The CFA is a format developed by ZEMOS98 that uses as a metaphor the code that makes up any computer system, adapting it to the field of culture. We all have a cultural source code, a recipe that allows us to project ourselves and identify ourselves with the stories of other people or agents. Sharing our source code is nothing more than recognising that we construct our identity by listening to the stories of others, i.e. interdependently. It is not a projection, but it is not a lecture either. It is a hybrid format. It is a game.
***All activities will have simultaneous translation from Spanish to English or vice versa***.
***The activity will not be streamed, but will be recorded and shared after the event***.
What does this journey seek to achieve?
The initiative ‘In Between. For mediation in Europe that strengthens inclusive communities’.’ aims to intensify a form of cultural mediation that fosters democracy and citizen participation, giving visibility to artistic and cultural mediation practices; generating knowledge exchange and content production; and providing spaces for mutual support between people and institutions.
The Seville event on 30 November is an opportunity to disseminate mediation projects and make contact with professionals from the sector within a European framework, in which, apart from Spain, others from European member countries - Portugal, Ireland and Serbia - will participate, positioning Spain in Europe as a reference in cultural mediation.
The meeting is part of the programme of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union and is supported by the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation and Acción Cultural Española.
