Structures of Affection Start-up Day

Structures of Affection holds a public initiation session in the framework of the DANA anniversaries

Read here in English.

When we speak of “structures of affect” we do not always refer to physical and visible buildings or spaces. Sometimes, what really sustains collective life are simple and invisible forms of organisation: routines, tacit agreements, provisional spaces or intimate rituals. These arrangements, even if they are not monumental, allow the bonds to remain alive and strong, especially after a crisis situation such as the floods of the DANA of October 2024. The structures affected are not always visible or permanent, but they are what sustain life after the storm. For the opening of the project and on the occasion of the commemoration of the DANA that took place and affected the area just one year ago, Estructures d'Afecte proposes to pay tribute to the links of the community of Parc Alcosa (Alfafar) by means of invisible but audible support structures. Sound structures.

A symbolic act of visibility of the links and support structures of the neighbourhood that mixes two styles, urban music with freestyle Rap and the tradition of the Albaes. The Cant d'Albaes is a variant of the Cant d'Estil, a Valencian song that is above all vocal expressivity with songs accompanied musically by traditional instruments where the improvisation of the texts is predominant, usually sung on the back of the guitar. The instruments, the tabal and the dolçaina, act as a structure that supports, stretches or repeats beats, turns... giving time to the song, to the verse, to the people, taking care of them, accompanying them.

The Freestyles and Albaes workshop will link the two worlds, initially separate but with many common links that add up and harmonise. A workshop that continues the process of the regular Hip Hop workshop of the Kolectivo Joves Parke with Fanny, workshop leader, and which on this occasion will also include Ronald (freestyler from the neighbourhood), Neus Berenguer (from Massa Salvatge) and Lluís Benlloch (versador). After the workshop there will be a sung walk with stops in significant places in the neighbourhood, accompanied by Santi Albinyana (tabalet), Adrià Campanar (dolçaina), Tati Prades and Toni Guzman (singing) and Lluís Benlloch (versador) who will mix with the rhymes of the freestylers and the local people.

The final song in the square will be followed by the inauguration of the artistic installation “La Porta de la Memòria” (The Door of Memory) by the plastic artist La Palo for the Parke Alkosa Collective. At the installation, it will be possible to listen to some of the stories of people from the neighbourhood who lived through the DANA and that have been collected by the young people of Parke Alkosa as part of the project of pòdcast and participatory storytelling “Quan van sonar les alarmes” with Tamara Sánchez from Línia Discontinua, documentary photographer and specialist in community processes.

All the activities except the freestyles workshop (reserved for the young people of the Alkosa Park) are proposals for a collective and participative tribute, and for this reason we invite all those interested to participate in this kick-off day of the “Structures of Affection” project, which will take place on Thursday 24 October from 19:30h.

Structures of Affect Kick-off Day

Structures of Affect holds a public kick-off session as part of the DANA anniversaries

When we speak of “structures of affect” we do not always refer to physical, visible buildings or spaces. Sometimes, what really sustains collective life are simple and invisible forms of organisation: routines, tacit agreements, provisional spaces or intimate rituals. These devices, even if they are not monumental, allow bonds to remain alive and strong, especially after a crisis situation such as the DANA floods of October 2024. Structures of affection are not always visible or permanent, but they are what sustain life after the storm. For the opening of the project and on the occasion of the acts of commemoration of the DANA that took place and affected the area just a year ago, from Structures of Affection we propose to pay tribute to the bonds of the community of Parque Alcosa (Alfafar) by means of invisible but audible support structures. Sound Structures.

A symbolic act to make visible the links and support structures of the neighbourhood that mixes two styles, urban music and Rap. freestyle and the tradition of the Albaes. The Qty d’Albaes is a variety of Cant d'Estil, Valencian song which is above all vocal expressiveness with songs accompanied musically by traditional instruments where the improvisation of the texts normally sung by ear predominates. The instruments, the tabal and the dulzaina, act as a structure that supports, stretches or repeats bars, turns... giving time to the singing, to the verse, to the people, taking care of them, accompanying them.

The workshop of Freestyles y Albaes will bring together both worlds, at first separate but with many common links that add up and harmonise. A workshop that continues the process of the periodic Hip hop workshop of the Kolectivo Jóvenes Parke with Fanny, workshop leader, and that for this occasion will also count with Ronald (freestyler of the neighbourhood), Neus Berenguer (from Massa Salvatge) and Lluís Benlloch (versador). The workshop will be followed by a sung walk with stops at significant places in the neighbourhood, accompanied by Santi Albinyana (tabalet), Adrià Campanar (dolçaina), Tati Prades and Toni Guzman (singing) and Lluís Benlloch (versador), who will mix in with the rhymes of the freestyles and with the voices of the neighbourhood.

The final chant in the square will give way to the inauguration of the art installation “La Puerta de la Memoria” by the artist La Palo for the Kolectivo del Parke Alkosa.
