Concomitentes, where we promote the creation of works of art, mediating between the citizens who commission them and the artists who produce them, is organising the public presentation, ‘Culture that heals’, of the results of one of the four pilot projects, Paediatric ICUwhich will take place on next Thursday, 1 June, at 18.30hrs at the CaixaForum of Madrid.
Paediatric ICU: Three artistic works and a book after five years of work
The concomitance, Paediatric ICU, has been working for the last five years with Concomitentes mediator Felipe G. Gil of ZEMOS98 and a group of five nurses from the Intensive Care Unit of the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital in Tenerife -Quique Chinea, Lili Quintero, Ruymán Morales, Seve Torres and Laura León-, to identify how art and culture can contribute to improving the emotional care of paediatric patients and the relatives who accompany them during their hospitalisation process.
How can the stress and anxiety caused by these spaces be alleviated? Is it possible to help nurses and other health professionals, through an artistic process and the creation of a cultural product, in the emotional care of patients and their families? With these questions as a background, the mediation space - based on listening, exchange and negotiation, and in which art and culture have been placed at the service of the social and professional needs of the participants - has generated three cultural and artistic works: A podcast ‘In the Paediatric ICU’ (listen to it here) directed by Elena Cabrera; the illustrated story ‘Hospitalario’, signed by Miguel López The Hematocritic and the illustrator from the Canary Islands Cynthia Hierro; and ‘la cuidateca’, a mobile library built by the architect, Artemi Hernández, of the Office of Civic Innovation of Tenerife.
This meeting will show the conclusions accumulated in this long journey, with the voices of the protagonists of the project and the authors of the book ‘...'.‘Hospitality against the odds’, -launched last March together with Bartlebooth Publishers-, which traces lines of flight to think about health as a common good while gathering the lessons learned by the working group since 2018..
This project has been developed thanks to Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, The project's founding patron, with the support of the College of Nurses of Santa Cruz de Tenerife y CajaCanarias Foundation, and with the collaboration of la Caixa« Foundation« and the Canary Health Service.
