Iván Argote, artist for the Fine Arts Library

The Colombian artist visited the library for the first time in March.
The Colombian artist, based in Paris, Iván Argote (Bogotá, 1983) will be in charge of developing the artistic work in the Library of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University, where the Madrid concomitance, one of the four pilot projects of Concomitentes active in Spain, is taking place. Last March he had his first visit to space, a first landing that served as a first contact with the campus and the university community with which he will have to work..
The concomitance, which began in 2017, with the help of a group of patrons made up of library users and staff, led by its director, Javier Pérez Iglesias, is based on the exploration of the uses, spaces and experiences hosted by this library, in particular, and libraries in general, to delve into the capacity for encounter and connection that these environments host.
Ivan, with an extensive artistic career that has led him to exhibit his work all over the world, explores through his work the relationship between history, politics, tradition, from the relationship with the other, using formats that include video, sculpture, collage or installations in the public space.. At words of the Colombian artistThere are several things that I find interesting. One is the architectural form, I find interesting some spaces that are in disuse or that have other uses; the relationship with vegetation; and obviously the relationship with the library and how it can do something more tentacular, not only within this faculty and this perimeter of a hundred metres, but perhaps go beyond, in another way that is not necessarily physical“.
An exciting creative process, which has just begun, of which we will keep you updated with more details.
