The work of the nurses who care for the children in the Paediatric ICU goes far beyond mere nursing work. Without specialised knowledge, they act as psychologists for the children and their families, as teachers who teach them about body and health care, as clowns who entertain and make them laugh when they are having a hard time, and even as fathers and mothers when they are absent. Therefore, in practice and in the absence of a psychology professional, everything related to the mental health and emotional care of children and families is managed by those who spend the most time caring for them: the nursing staff. How can a work of art or a cultural product help in this context? That is what this concomitance seeks to address.<\/p>\n

It is clear that, from a general perspective, a situation of emotional stress of a child who has just been hospitalised could be solved with resources and an increase in specialised staff who could provide continuous assistance to children and families. Unfortunately, the crisis or the very development of medical institutions has not been able to prioritise this. So we are faced with a group of people who play a fundamental role in the physical and mental care of hospitalised people. <\/p>\n
It is the nursing staff themselves who, in this case, work in the Paediatric ICU of the 'Hospital Universitario Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de La Candelaria' and who make up the group of commissioners.
