{"id":705,"date":"2022-10-20T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-10-20T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/concomitentes.vl22350.dinaserver.com\/hospitalario-el-cuento-ilustrado-de-el-hematocritico-y-cynthia-hierro\/"},"modified":"2025-07-15T18:51:20","modified_gmt":"2025-07-15T18:51:20","slug":"hospitalario-the-illustrated-tale-of-the-haematocritic-and-cynthia-hierro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/concomitentes.org\/en\/hospitalario-el-cuento-ilustrado-de-el-hematocritico-y-cynthia-hierro\/","title":{"rendered":"Hospitalario', the illustrated story by El Hematocr\u00edtico and Cynthia Hierro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The second of the works of art for the Tenerife concomitance, <u><a href=\"https:\/\/concomitentes.org\/en\/concomitances\/uci-paediatrica-tenerife\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Paediatric ICU<\/a><\/u>, is the story \u2018Hospitalario\u2019, created by the Galician author, Miguel L\u00f3pez, better known as&nbsp;<u><a href=\"https:\/\/concomitentes.org\/en\/diary\/art-should-have-the-function-of-improving-peoples-lives\/?proyecto=uci-pediatrica-tenerife\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">The Hematocritic<\/a><\/u>, and illustrated by the artist from the Canary Islands, <u><a href=\"https:\/\/concomitentes.org\/en\/diary\/bringing-art-and-culture-closer-to-people-is-a-way-to-grow-and-help-others\/?proyecto=uci-pediatrica-tenerife\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Cynthia Hierro<\/a><\/u>. The story, which has a first limited edition of 100 copies and which was presented at the <u><a href=\"https:\/\/concomitentes.org\/en\/diary\/uci-paediatrica-presents-its-three-artistic-works-on-15-september-in-tenerife\/?proyecto=uci-pediatrica-tenerife\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">public event<\/a><\/u> which was held in Tenerife on 15 September, <strong>will be aimed at children admitted to an ICU, to help paediatric patients manage and navigate the admission experience.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>concomitance has a track record that began four years ago.<\/strong> of the hand of its mediator,&nbsp;<u><a href=\"https:\/\/concomitentes.org\/en\/protagonists\/felipe-gonzalez\/?proyecto=uci-pediatrica-tenerife\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Felipe G. Gil<\/a><\/u>&nbsp;of ZEMOS98 and a group of five nurses from the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de Candelaria University Hospital in Tenerife, -Quique Chinea, Lili Quintero, Ruym\u00e1n Miranda, Seve Torres and Laura Le\u00f3n-, to provide them with tools through the resources provided by art and culture to attend to the emotional care of small patients.<\/p>\n<figure data-ratio=\"auto\">\n    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/concomitentes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/foto-1.jpeg\" alt=\"Photo provided by Cynthia Hierro.\"><figcaption>\n    Photo provided by Cynthia Hierro.  <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The creative work on this illustrated story, which began in mid-2021, has been built up through a <u><a href=\"https:\/\/concomitentes.org\/en\/diary\/el-hematocritico-will-be-working-on-a-work-somewhere-between-an-illustrated-story-and-a-comic-book\/?proyecto=uci-pediatrica-tenerife\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">exchange of the artist with mediator and commissioners<\/a><\/u>One of the things I have in common with the people who make up this project - the nursing staff of the Paediatric ICU, Felipe and the producer Andr\u00e9s Cabrera - is our ability to listen and empathise, to put ourselves in someone else's shoes. So I start with that same idea of listening. I have to listen, I have to learn, I have to perceive, and I have to feel. In our meetings, which we have had by videoconference and especially the face-to-face one, I have soaked up and enjoyed it very much\u201c.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A story focused on care<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The result has been a&nbsp;<strong>story focusing on \u201ccare\u201d, with a focus on children who are going through the ordeal of hospital admission<\/strong>My intention is that the children who pass through your hands will identify with the protagonists and share the same concerns,\u201c she said. She also pointed out that one of the key challenges is to be able to reach the widest possible audience: \u201dI intend to work in a format that is attractive to adults, but accessible to children. I intend to work in a format that is attractive to adults, but accessible to children, so that it can reach the largest possible number of readers\u201c, something he has achieved through a hybrid proposal between comic and story.<\/p>\n<figure data-ratio=\"auto\">\n    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/concomitentes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/foto-2.jpeg\" alt=\"Photo provided by Cynthia Hierro.\"><figcaption>\n    Photo provided by Cynthia Hierro.  <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At the event to present the three plays, some of the keys to the process were explained: \u201cDespite being trained as teachers, and they as nurses, we found many more things in common than different, we spoke the same language because we worked with children, and we were concerned about listening to them.
