In 1982, the permanent collection moved to the current Andr\u00e9s Fern\u00e1ndez-Albalat building in O Castro, Sada (A Coru\u00f1a). The centre has works by Castelao, Maruja Mallo, Francisco Llor\u00e9ns, Eugenio Granell, Urbano Lugr\u00eds and artists belonging to the Atl\u00e1ntica group, among others. However, the current state of the tangible and intangible heritage of the Carlos Maside Museum calls for care and criticism from civil society, public administrations, the cultural sphere and the academic community to help protect it.<\/p>\n<p>With this aim in mind, various institutions and groups are organising the<u> <\/u>Carlos Maside Museum: a citizen heritage conference to be held between Santiago de Compostela and Sada on 27 and 28 September. The conference will address the legal vacuum, interests, lack of interest and other aspects that complicate the protection and conservation of the important heritage that this museum treasures.<\/p>\n<figure data-ratio=\"auto\">\n    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/concomitentes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/museo-carlos-maside.jpg\" alt=\"\"><figcaption>\n    Interior of the Carlos Maside Museum.  <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The conference will be directed by Germ\u00e1n Labrador M\u00e9ndez (Princeton University), Miguel Anxo Rodr\u00edguez (USC), Agar Ledo Arias (Comisi\u00f3n de Xesti\u00f3n e Pol\u00edticas Culturais do CCG), Fran Quiroga (Concomitentes), Dolores Vilavedra (secretary of the CCG\/USC) and will count with the collaboration of the Consello da Cultura Galega, Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, Concello de Sada and the collaboration of the Diputaci\u00f3n de la Coru\u00f1a.The conference is structured in three sessions. The first will take place at the Consello da Cultura Galega, and will focus on the future of the Carlos Maside Museum and the importance of post-war museums. Patricia Gabeiras, a lawyer specialising in cultural law; Anxo Lorenzo, General Secretary of Culture, Xunta de Galicia; Felipe Sen\u00e9n, museologist and collaborator of the Laboratorio de Formas de Galicia; and Xavier Ferreira Fern\u00e1ndez, professor of administrative law at the USC, will participate. Also in attendance will be Mar\u00eda Dolores Jim\u00e9nez-Blanco, Director General of Fine Arts at the Ministry of Culture; Rosario Peir\u00f3, Director of Collections at the Reina Sof\u00eda Museum; Inmaculada Real L\u00f3pez, lecturer in the Department of Art History at UniZar; and Mar\u00eda Antonia P\u00e9rez Rodr\u00edguez, lecturer in the Department of Humanities at the UDC.<\/p>\n<figure data-ratio=\"auto\">\n    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/concomitentes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/maside-exposicions.jpg\" alt=\"\"><figcaption>\n    One of the works on display in the institution's collection.  <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The second session, to be held at the Centro de Estudios Avanzados de la Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, will be attended by former employees of the centre, people linked to the Laboratorio de Formas and scholars such as Xos\u00e9 D\u00edaz Arias, Iria-Frin\u00e9 Rivera V\u00e1zquez, Guillermo Escrigas, Anxo Rabu\u00f1al, Carmela Montero, Xurxo Ay\u00e1n, Charo Portela, Mar\u00eda Am\u00e9rica D\u00edaz, Manuel P\u00e9rez Lorenzo, Sabela L\u00f3pez Pato, Daniel L\u00f3pez Abel and Daniel Lanero.<\/p>\n<p>The day will close on Tuesday, 28 September, with the participatory session \u2018The Carlos Maside Museum: communities and links\u2019. The meeting will take place in the library of the Casa da Cultura of Sada and will be facilitated by Fran Quiroga, mediator in Concomitentes. It is a participatory space open to all citizens, with which we seek to know the link that the neighbours of Sada have with the Carlos Maside Museum. At the same time, a debate will be opened on what a new contemporary art museum should be like today.
