\u00abWater ruins roads,\u00bb the song tells us. A few days ago, Ram\u00f3n also reminded us of this as we looked at one of the village houses, still with a roof but already half in ruins: \u00abWhen water starts getting into houses, they don't last long...\u00bb. The clay badlands surrounding Sapeira also explain it to us in red every time we enter or leave the village. When it flows without guidance, it carries away soil, erodes the edges and walls; sometimes water causes damage. That's why, for centuries, people have learned to live with it. Some of us have understood that it's much wiser to go with its flow than to try to control it. Paved paths, dry stone walls, ditches, or traditional channels are not just infrastructure; they are ways of understanding that the territory is a continuous conversation between the water and those who inhabit it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Sapeira, we\u2019ve long talked about this old and powerful goddess, water. And at one of the most recent 'Clearer than Water' gatherings, the Main Street filled not with water, but with the sound of hammers, shovels, and stones finding their place. We restored a section of the old cobbled path that, for generations, has guided the water down the street to keep it out of the houses. There were moments when, if you closed your eyes, it sounded like a flock of sheep moving up the mountain. Clink-clink, clink-clink. Each tool with its own rhythm. Each person with their own gesture. But all moving in the same direction. And that\u2019s because some jobs only make sense when done this way. Jobs that need many hands, that need a flock. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
